This mother's day those of you with deep pockets can consider getting the most wonderful woman in your life a status bag. They make great investments as they appreciate in value as the years go by and the quality is of the utmost importance to manufacturers and leather always ages beautifully. Here's the breakdown of a few of the world's most iconic status bags.
Classic Status Bags by mme bienvenue featuring louis vuitton bags
Chanel 2.55-This gem was crafted by Coco Chanel in the 20's with the realization that she was tired of carrying her bag in her hand. She created a purse with straps inspired by the ones worn by soldiers and voila! The 2.55 was born and reinvented in February 1955, hence the name 2.55!
Hermes Kelly-Originally known as the Constance this bag was made popular by Grace Kelly after she was photograhed hiding a very chic baby bump with it. She was known to carry it quite exlcusively until her passing.
Hermes Birkin-Named after actress/singer Jane Birkin after she complained about her difficulty finding a good weekend bag to Hermes chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas, this bag is a symbol of wealth and exclusivity. With lengthy waiting lists and prices ranging from $7000, each bag is hand-crafted and is available in calf leather, ostrich skin and crocodile and comes with gold, palladium or diamond encrusted hardware.
Fendi Baguette-No one will ever forget Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw correcting her mugger after he demanded she give him her bag, "it's a baguette," she replied. It was first issued in 1997 and many argue that it was the catalyst to the "It Bag" trend. It is just as popular today and comes in a variety of styles going from shoulder bag to clutch in a matter of seconds.
Louis Vuitton Speedy-Loved by Audrey Hepburn, the Speedy is one of the most affordable status bags. It comes in Monogram (pictured above) and Damier canvas and is redesigned by Louis Vuitton every season (with my favourite being the graffiti Speedy).
Personally, I am not at the status bag stage of life yet, so for my birthday (ahem,) I'll be enjoying one of these equally luxurious Michael Kors Hamiltons.
