Already Missing Carine Roitfeld...

When the news first broke of Carine Roitfeld stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris I was a bit heartbroken. Roitfeld offered many eye-catching and thought-provocking issues and although my french is very rusty, and not to mention Canadian, I do understand an amazing image when I see one. Who could ever forget that playful, trailblazing Andre J cover?

While other editors creep along exercising the same old formulas Roitfeld kept fashion lovers on the edge of their seats wondering what to expect next with her content and love it or hate it, she always gave you something to talk about.

Whenever her next endeavour may be I'm sure Carine Roitfeld will continue to spark interest and a little controversy all in good fun, but her vision for Vogue Paris will surely be missed.

The Street Escape

I stopped in my tracks when I saw this pin-up inspired beauty at Bungalow. Her look is a mash-up of rockbilly and 50s glam with a modern twist. Sigh, how we love!

Chanel Pre-Fall 2011

Savage Garden once sang, "I knew I loved you before I met you, I think I dreamed you into life." If I could wear one head-to-toe look straight off the runway for the rest of my life it would be this one.

P.S. Please don't take this as an exhaustive statement. Fashion is ever-changing, as am I.

Nick Knight's Tribute to Alexander McQueen

Yesterday Alexander McQueen was posthumously awarded with the Oustanding Achievement in Fashion Design award at the British Fashion Awards and was honoured with a breath-taking tribute video "To Lee, With Love, Nick," by photographer Nick Knight-featuring styling done by Edward Enninful. Knight expressed having the need do to a video of McQueen's most iconic pieces before The Metropolitan Museum of Art takes the collection for an exhibit they have planned for in the spring.

The visuals are absolutely beautiful and Bjorks vocals are more than fitting. Enjoy!

McQueen's Morning Glory!

This morning I awoke to these beautiful images on Highsnobette. The Spring 2011 bag collection from Alexander is looking gorgeous. I believe Sarah Burton is doing a great job as his successor. Although McQueen's aesthetic remains unmatched, Burton has given me no cause for complaint. I wish her all the best.

Below are the pics of my absolute favourites, hint, hint.

Hermes Goes for a Ride

I was youtube surfing when I found this:

Aah, to be skateboarding in a sea of Hermes accessories! Lucky finger! This video inspired another item on my wish list, this little number:

Christmas should be fun this year as I'll mostly be buying presents for myself! Selfish, I know, but I deserve it. Joie de vivre!

Loving Philip Van De Roq!

As soon as I saw this collection of tribal inspired pieces I started hyperventilating. The piece above, named Uppsala, is on my Christmas wish list. The Philip Van de Roq collection is by multi-designer Pernilla Philip. She has done fashion, furniture and industrial design, and for her latest conquest she uses materials such as: buffalo leather, sterling silver and paper clay to create the jewelry for this emotionally moving debut. You can view the entire collection at http://www.philipvanderoq.com/

More Lanvin for H&M!

I know I've been driving you all crazy with these Lanvin-H&M posts but I'm a big fan of Alber Elbaz and the countdown is in full swing. This morning I awoke to the full collection and a cool video that I absolutely just love.
Looking at the collection I've already planned out exactly what I'll be buying, these items are on my wishlist. It's a long list so for those of you interested in viewing the full collection it is at the bottom of the page.

Here's the video featuring the full collection. It kind of reminds me of Madonna's Justify My Love video but more coutour-ish and not as sexual,of course. What do you think?

Jeremy Scott Spring 2011

At his spring 2011 show Jeremy Scott showed his love for the city life. With stomped on trench coats, plastic bag blouses, loads of leather and garbage bag skirts, Jeremy Scott showed that he really (insert red heart here) New York. It's scenery was all over his clothing from the pop can mini dresses to the graffiti tees that let everyone know that "No sale is ever final."

I'm a fan of Jeremy Scott because his workmanship is always tops and always done with a twist. This safety pin dress is my favourite piece from the collection.

Jeremy Scott's piece's are fun and quirky but also a definite investment because there's always a joy in wearing a designer piece that's unique and innovative. All in all, Jeremy Scott spring 2011 was a breath of fresh air.

Lanvin Hearts H&M

The collection seems to be shaping up very nicely. I am super excited!

Caitlin Power Spring 2011

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend Caitlin Power's spring 2011 show held at the Drake by Creative Magnet. The line was amazing. I was very impressed by the immaculate tailoring and loved the edgy cuts and the mixture of fabrics, especially the crinkled leather panels used in her pieces.

This romper was a favourite of mine.

As was this suit.

I could not keep my eye's off of the details put into her pieces. Caitlin Power has an amazing talent and I'm excited to see what she has in store for the future.

The Afropolitan Collection

I was making my daily blog rounds today and came across this collection on fashionbombdaily.com. The Afropolitan Collection by Eniola Hundeyin is a six piece collection that fuses African fashion and prints, mostly that of Nigeria, with western, downtown inspired shapes and cuts. The collection is vibrant and fun and I would love to own each piece. I see a client like Solange, Tracee Ellis Ross or Nicole Richie enjoying these clothes and hopefully as time goes by Ms. Hundeyin will recieve more notoriety.

You can see what The Afropolitan Collection is all about at http://www.theafropolitancollection.com/
and in the meantime you can check out this video that was done by the designer herself. It's called THE TAKEOVER.

Nigel Barker's The Beauty Equation

This post is coming a little late but better late than never. A couple weeks ago I went to see Nigel Barker speak about his new book The Beauty Equation. The book is part autobiography and part self-help with a series of challenges that readers can do with their digital camaras at home.

You may remember Nigel Barker as a judge from America's Next Top Model. He's also a well-respected photographer whose work has shown in many popular magazines. Barker gave a wonderful lecture about beauty and how the lfe you lead can affect how you percieve your own beauty and how others percieve your beauty.

One of my favourite anecdotes that he gave was about a friend of his that had just left an abusive relationship. She began volunteering at a soup kitchen and within months he noticed that she was walking taller and had a glow about he. He stressed how community service and kindness can help you radiate from within.

The Beauty Equation is an inspiring book from a noted photographer who gives lessons that most would pay thousands to recieve. The challenges are fun and easy and you can share your work on Nigel's website http://www.beautyequation.com/.

"YOU+allure+confidence+compassion+spontaneity+radiance+health+honesty+charm+energy/humour=BEAUTY." Nigel Barker.
